Greenham's Base welcomes 180 pupils from Robert Sandilands, The Willows and John Rankin to Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition
Pupils from three Newbury and Thatcham-based schools have had the chance to enjoy a visit to see the Natural History Museum’s Wildlife Photographer of the Year 58 at The Base Greenham in its final weeks, thanks to funding from the Peter Baker Foundation, Newbury Town Council and Greenham Trust.
The funding provided transport to take more than 180 pupils from Robert Sandilands, The Willows and John Rankin primary schools to visit the visual arts centre to view the world-renowned exhibition, receive a tour of the building and resident artists’ studios and some also took part in creative workshops.
The Base, Greenham has hosted the prestigious photography event every year since opening in 2019 and in that time has welcomed more than 12,500 visitors to the various instalments of the touring show.
The Base gallery manager Steph Johnson said: "This exhibition is one of the most popular events in our calendar and now being able to share that with local state schools is an absolute joy for our whole team.
"As we move forward as a new charity, we’re excited to build relationships with foundations and trusts to enable more community and engagement with our wider programme."
Featuring exceptional images that capture fascinating animal behaviour and spectacular species, National History Museum’s Wildlife Photographer of the Year 58 encourages a future of advocating for the planet. The exhibition runs at The Base from Wednesday to Sunday (10am-5pm) until Sunday, March 26.
