The buzz is back at Newbury Racecourse as crowds return for racing

Newbury Racecourse has welcomed back a limited crowd for a race meeting for the first time since December 2020.

The Betfair Summer Special took place on Thursday (June 10), with almost 4,000 spectators turning up to create a fantastic atmosphere.

Marketing director at the racecourse, Harriet Collins, said: “We welcomed back crowds for the first time last Thursday and it was particularly warming to hear the buzz of spectators cheering on the winners.

“There was lovely atmosphere around the site which we have so missed.

“The team have worked hard to ensure racegoers and staff feel safe at the course and given the ample amount of space we have on offer, we are confident that people can come and enjoy the live action and feel safe.

“We’ve got a busy calendar of racing fixtures and events coming up over the next month, including the return of our popular Gin Thursday’s evening fixtures and our popular Pub in the Paddock, where we will be showing an array of sport on big Saturdays.”

The next meeting at Newbury is on Tuesday and the fixture, which will be able to welcome up to 4,000 racegoers again, marks the start of a series of evening meetings throughout June and July.

Tickets are still available to purchase in advance and in addition to the racing action, the racecourse will also be showing the England v Czech Republic football game after the last race.
