Fundraising for NWN Over 80s Parcel Fund begins

Every year the Newbury Weekly News spreads a little Christmas cheer to nearly 2,000 elderly residents in West Berkshire.

This year’s NWN Over 80s’ Parcel Fund was launched by the paper and Greenham Trust at Sainsbury’s last week.

Anyone over the age of 80 years, whose name has been given to NWN, receives a Christmas food parcel in December.

Three distribution centres are now organised, transport is now confirmed and the NWN is in the process of sorting out ordering the food and how many parcels are needed this year.

Fundraising is in full swing with a cake and coffee morning with the Newbury Mayor on Saturday, November 4 at Newbury Town Hall.

The Sports Quiz is back at the Bowlers Arms on Thursday, November 16.

Stockcross Primary School is holding the Primary School Quiz on Tuesday, November 17 at 6.30pm.

Teams from schools across West Berkshire will be battling it out to win the Parcel Fund Trophy.

Contact Jo Fulker to enter a school before places run out.

Donations have already started pouring in thanks to Greenham Trust too.

This year anyone who donates through The Good Exchange has their donation matched and can do so here: https://shorturl.at/cruB8
