The Lion in Newbury is West Berkshire CAMRA's Pub of the Year 2022
CONGRATULATIONS to all at The Lion in Newbury – named the West Berkshire branch of CAMRA's Pub of the Year 2022.
The Campaign for Real Ale award is great news for father and son team Kevin and Sam Archibald, who took over the pub in October 2019 following a refurbishment.
The West Street watering hole boasts up to eight cask ales, including a range of guest ales and a cask cider.
A range of Tex-Mex food is served and the pub shows live sport on television, hosts a Thursday quiz night and occasional live music.
In the 1980s, The Lion was the only free house in Newbury and the CAMRA branch’s unofficial headquarters.
It was almost replaced with offices, but was saved by a campaign by CAMRA in 1988.
A presentation is due to take place tonight (Tuesday).
