King’s New Year Honours List revealed: Kintbury author Robert Harris among locals recognised in the 2025 list




Community champions and unsung heroes are among those recognised in the King’s New Year Honours list.

The list, which has just been published this evening (Monday) by the Cabinet Office, sees recipients awarded for their outstanding contributions across all sectors.

There is also a CBE for Kintbury author Robert Harris, for his services to literature.

And Thatcham’s Mark Lawrie has been appointed an OBE for his services to education and to young people.

He is the CEO of StreetGames, a charity that helps change lives and transform communities through sport, and the chair of trustees of the Personal Best Foundation, which aims to make athletics accessible to everyone.

Prime minister Sir Keir Starmer said: “Each and every day, ordinary people go out and do extraordinary things for their communities.

“They represent the very best of the UK and that core value of service which I put at the centre of everything this government does.

“The New Year Honours List celebrates more of these unsung heroes, and I thank them for their incredible contribution.”

Also across the region there was a Knighthood for Andrew Haines, from Wantage, CEO of Network Rail, for his services to the transport sector and to the economy.

Michael Vaughan Cooper, from Reading, director of the UK coordinating body, grants hub, at the department for the environment, food and rural affairs, was appointed an OBE for public service.

Dr Roger Padgham, from Faringdon, was appointed an MBE for his services to young people as a Scouting volunteer and Julian Sayers, from Wantage, director of Adkin, was also appointed an MBE for services to agriculture.

Georgina Brayshaw, from Wallingford was appointed an MBE for services to rowing, while there were also MBEs for Janet Collyer, from Reading, the chair of Quantum Dice, for services to quantum hardware and cyber security and for Robert White, also from Reading, a senior infrastructure manager at the North Sea Transition Authority, for his services to energy security.

Then there was a BEM for Mikayla Beames, from Wantage, founder of Team Mikayla, for her services to charitable fundraising for children with cancer, and for Jennifer Lambool, from Abingdon, a police staff supervisor at the Thames Valley Police contact management centre, for her services to policing.

The King’s New Year Honours List highlights those people who have made exceptional contributions to their local communities and the country as a whole.
