Reading makes list of most and least used railway stations in the South East




The most and least used railway station in South East have been revealed.

The Office for Rail and Road has estimated the number of entries and exits from stations between April 2023 and March 2024.

Reading Station came third in the Top 10 Most Used Stations, below Gatwick Airport and Brighton with 13.5 million recorded entries and exits.

It was followed by Oxford in fourth place, with 6.8 million entries and exits, and Slough in ninth, with 5.4 million entries and exits.

Reading also came ninth in the Top 10 Most Used Stations in Great Britain outside London.

London Liverpool Street station remains Britain's most used railway station, while Denton in Greater Manchester was recorded as the country’s least used station, with 54 entries and exits.

Estimates are derived from LENNON, the rail industry’s ticketing and revenue system, together with some local ticketing data.

A total of 1,610 million passenger journeys were made during the latest reporting period, an increase of 16 per cent from the 1,380 million journeys made between April 2022 to March 2023.
