The Queen spends 86th birthday in Newbury





She was also there on Friday, joined by sport stars golfer Rory McIlroy and his girlfriend and tennis player Caroline Wozniacki.
Home Secretary, Theresa May was also at the racecourse and took a tour of the Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance, South Central Ambulance Service and Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Fire services that were in attendance for the Emergency Services Family Fun Day.
The family fun day featured interactive displays and appearances from Fireman Sam and characters from City Of Friends throughout the day.
The Queen had four horses racing over the weekend, Sequence, Momentary, Border Legend and Sign Manual, the best placed being Border Legend, coming in third.
Noble Mission trained by Sir Henry Cecil and ridden by Tom Queally, won the first race on Saturday, The Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships Maiden Stakes and n Friday, Jonny Murtagh rode a double with Sentaril in the fourth and Vow in the fifth.
14,000 race goers visited the course over the weekend.
Newbury Racecourse managing director of racing and events, Stephen Higgins, said of the meeting which attracted 14,000 people over the weekend: “We had a fantastic turn out of emergency services personnel and hopefully raised vital funds for the Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance Service, which is such a valued resource for the horse racing industry and our wider community. This weekend kicked the flat season off to a great start.”
