The Lord of The Rings, a musical tale based on the classic trilogy by JRR Tolkien, with book and lyrics by Shaun McKenna and Matthew Warchus and music by Oscar and BAFTA Award winner A.R. Rahman (Bombay Dreams, Slumdog Millionaire), Värttinä and Tony Award winner and Grammy nominated Christopher Nightingale (Matilda the Musical) was the largest-scale production The Watermill has ever produced. It played from July to October across both the Bagnor theatre’s auditorium and gardens, with a cast of 21 actors supported by 32 backstage.

It has been nominated in the following categories:

Best Musical Revival

Best Regional Production

Best Sound Design (Adam Fisher)

Best Musical Direction / Supervision (Mark Aspinall and Sioned Saunders)

Director Paul Hart said: “We're thrilled to have received four nominations - the largest number for a show staged outside of London. We've got this far thanks to audiences who submitted their nominations. We'd be so grateful if everyone would continue their support and cast their votes before Jan 11th to help celebrate The Lord of The Rings and the work of The Watermill.”

The announcement of the nominations marks the opening of the final voting stage (until January 11) - theatregoers can vote here: https://awards.whatsonstage.com/24th-annual-whatsonstage-awards-vote-now/

The winners will be announced at the annual Awards ceremony held on February 11 at The London Palladium for the first time in the awards’ history.
