Theale Green School celebrates prestigious award

Theale Green School pupils have been recognised with a prestigious award.

The school has received the School Games Platinum Mark Award for the 2021/22 academic year for its commitment to physical education studies.

The award proceeds the school's 'good' rating by Ofsted and the Gold Award it has held for the past four years.

Director of sport and PE Tony Blinco said: "We are extremely proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of physical activity and school sport, including those young volunteers, leaders and officials who made our events possible.

"We are committed to using the School Games to try to engage those young people who have not previously been active or represented our school and to try to ensure that all our students have a positive experience and want to try out new activities beyond school too in our community.

"We believe in the power of physical activity and school sport as a school and give opportunities to those young people that need it most as either a participant, leader, official or volunteer."

The school was previously recognised for its focus on sports and the arts when the former Education Secretary Nadhim Zahawi and Youth Sport Trust chief executive Ali Oliver visited the school earlier this year.

The Youth Trust commended the school for being an 'Outstanding Secondary Practice' at its annual conference, the only secondary school in the UK to achieve this.

The School Games is a government-led award scheme formed in 2012 and facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust, to reward and recognise schools' engagement to celebrate keeping young people active.
