Reading Magistrates' Court: Jewel thief given suspended prison sentence

A jewel thief has been given a suspended prison sentence.
In the dock at Reading Magistrates' Court on Thursday, December 2, was Jason Benson.
The 46-year-old, of Newtown Road, Newbury, admitted stealing a Mulberry handbag containing an iPhone, Tiffany bracelet, three rings and a purse, together worth £4,220, from Sheetal Smith in Newbury on Saturday, October 16.
The theft meant he was in breach of a community order for possessing a knife in public.
Mr Benson was sentenced to 20 weeks imprisonment, suspended for 12 months.
He was also ordered to pay Ms Smith £200 in compensation and to undergo treatment for drug addiction.
