Third victory in a row for Bayer 10k record breaker

The 39-year old from 42 Engineer Regiment at Hermitage blitzed the field and passed the finish line in a time of 33 minutes 4 seconds, obliterating last year's time of 34 minutes 54 seconds, which itself was an improvement on his first victory.
Upon finishing Mr Watkins said: "I wanted the course record and beat that by over a minute. All the hard work has paid off, I am really pleased. I think I can go faster and next year want to get in under 33 minutes."
Fastest female was 33-year-old Jess Franklin from Compton, who also took the crown in yesterday's Chieveley Chase 8km run.
She said she was delighted at her double victory.
The annual run welcomed 810 entrants, many of whom were affiliated with running clubs, of all ages from 16 to people in their 70s.
Sunshine smiled down on the crowds who packed Market Place and the surrounding streets to cheer the runners on.
Crowd-pleasing fancy dress runners were also very visible amongst the throngs, including "Fatman" AKA Steve Carville who runs in a modified Batman costume complete with synthetic belly, and Thatcham resident Greg Filmer, who ran as the cartoon superhero's nemesis, Scarecrow.
