Thirty years of town twinning with Ligueil
Chapagne party planned to celebrate
IT IS 30 years since Hungerford and its French twin town, Ligueil, adopted their own ‘entende cordiale.'
To mark the occasion, members and friends of the Hungerford Twinning Association (HTA) will be attending a celebratory dinner at the town's Three Swans on Saturday.
A champagne reception will also be held courtyesy of Tesco Hungerford.
The celebration of three decades of town twinning will be an especially proud moment for one man - 1981 town mayor Jack Williams, founder member who helped forged the links between the two towns.
Mr Williams will remind guests of the many long-term Anglo-French bonds that have been forged over the past 30 years. At the same time, he will be anticipating building upon the successful visit of last year's party from Ligueil that included nearly 20 teenagers who enjoyed a taste of Hungerford hospitality.
This year it is Hungerford's turn to visit Ligueil from May 27 to 31 and organisers hope that a similar number of Hungerford youngsters will join in the fun.
Further details of the dinner and bookings are available from HTA Secretary Virginia Crane on 01488 684804.
