Thousands flock to Lambourn's big day

Betfair Open Day basks in spring sunshine

"BLESS the weather!"

That was the view of broadcaster and former National Hunt champion jockey John Francome today (Good Friday) as Lambourn basked in spring sunshine on its big day out.

Thousands flocked to the village for the 25th annual Betfair Open Day.

Some came to see marvel at the spectacular Musical Ride of the Household Cavalry while others enjoyed a morning touring the yard of top trainers.

This afternoon there's a lurcher racing display, the Shetland Grand National and a showjumping competition between soldiers of the Household Cavalry and top jockeys.

The event raises money for the horse racing industry charity, the Lambourn Valley Housing Trust and for the Thames Valley Air Ambulance, the Lambourn Church of England Primary School and other worthwhile Lambourn Valley causes.
