Three long-standing St Bart's staff members to retire
John King (pictured), Stephen Kerry and Pat Attwool will all be leaving at the end of term.
The longest serving of them all is Mr King who was appointed as sixth form history master at St Bartholomew’s Grammar School on September 1, 1964.
Current headteacher at the Andover Road school, Christina Haddrell, said: “I know of no other person who has worked for 48 years without a single day’s absence.
“John is as committed now to inspiring students with his love of history and politics and supporting them in their learning as he was when his teaching career began.”
Mr King said: “I have seen many fundamental changes, from a boys’ grammar school to becoming a large coeducational comprehensive.
“The regalia of the old grammar school, caps, Saturday morning school and the cane have passed into history.
“The old buildings have been replaced by the stunning and inspirational new ones.”
Stephen Kerry had worked at St Bart’s for 35 years and for 30 years had been The Special Educational Needs Coordinator.
He said: “I will miss the busy surroundings of the school day and working with the students.
“Whilst working in a school environment has kept me young, I am looking forward to fresh challenges and becoming more creative.”
Pat Attwool has been at the school for 28 years and played a key role as head of the business faculty in the school becoming a Business and Enterprise College.
She said: “I have enjoyed my career at St Bart’s and am now going to have more time to spend with my family and to travel.”
Mrs Haddrell added: “We will miss all three members of staff who have been influential on teaching and learning in so many different ways.
"We wish them well in their retirement.”
