Three men and a mission to Row2Rio
Johnny Keevill, aged 30, plans to set off in December 2015, with London man Jake Heath, aged 28, and Tom Clark, aged 30 from Guildford, to raise money for Help for Heroes and Happy Child International.
The trio, who will be the first known rowers to attempt the challenge, have allowed themselves 21 days to kayak and cycle from London to France then Gibraltar, one month to row 1,500 nautical miles to Cape Verde, two months for the 1,600NM to Belem, one month to cycle 750 miles to Salvador and, finally, a further two weeks to reach their final destination of Rio de Janeiro, arriving in time for the start of the Olympic Games on August 5.
Ocean rower Chris Martin has told them that the challenge is achievable and has pledged to be on hand throughout to offer advice and motivation.
However, before they can set off, they must raise £85,000 to cover expenses, including £32,000 for a Rannoch ocean rowing boat.
Mr Keevill said: “It will be the stories of the men and women who have placed their bodies on the line - day in day out, that will stop me from sitting in that cabin and feeling sorry for myself when things are rough.”
