Three new deputy lieutenants appointed for Berkshire
The new appointments are:Simon Carter, of Streatley on Thames, Jacqueline Ryder, of Bracknell and General Sir Charles Redmond Watt, who lives in Berkshire.
Mrs Bayliss said: “I am delighted to welcome three new Deputy Lieutenants. They come from a variety of backgrounds; their skills will strengthen the Lieutenancy and enable me to benefit from their experience and advice. I congratulate them on being awarded this honour and I look forward to working with them in the future.”
Mr Carter was chairman of the Royal County of Berkshire Show in 2009 and for many years involved with the Newbury and District Agricultural Society. He was chairman of the society’s Centenary Committee. He has also been extensively involved in supporting other charitable and sporting organisations over a long period.
Mrs Ryder was a former councillor of both the town of Bracknell and the Borough of Bracknell Forest. She was mayor of Bracknell Town in the 1990’s and Mayor of the Borough of Bracknell Forest from 2005 to 2006. Voluntary Sector Champion for Bracknell Forest from 2001 to 2005 she has been extensively involved in supporting other charitable and sporting organisations over a long period
General Sir Charles Redmond Watt served for 36 years in the Army, his last appointment before retiring in 2008 being Commander-in-Chief of Land Command. He is now Governor of the Royal Hospital Chelsea. He is also President of Combat Stress and President of the Royal Cambridge Home for Army Widows.
The role of the deputy lieutenants is to support the Lord Lieutenant in her wide-ranging work as Her Majesty’s personal representative in the county.
Deputy lieutenants are encouraged to support public and emergency services and the armed forces based in the county. They are also expected to promote a spirit of co-operation by supporting charitable and voluntary organizations and to take an interest in the commercial, social, civic and spiritual life of the county.
The Lord Lieutenant is now supported in her work by the Vice Lord Lieutenant and 29 deputy lieutenants.
