'Bulky and incongruous' plans for care home rejected

Plans for a three story 66 bed care home in Calcot have been refused by West Berkshire Council.

The plans were refused as officers felt the three storeys would be overbearing in size, scale and massing, creating a terracing effect.

“It would be very bulky and incongruous in the local street scene,” said the report.

The plans for the care home at The Chase, made by LNT Care Developments, outlined ambitions for a mixed residential and dementia care home.

The developers claimed the design of the building would be in keeping with the local area and would include 32 car parking spaces and an ambulance drop off zone, and that it would create 41 full time jobs.

Around half a dozen locals objected to the scheme.
