Three-year-old girl dies after multi-vehicle crash on A34 near Oxford

Police appealing for witnesses to latest fatal crash on road

POLICE are continuing to appeal for information about an eight vehicle collision on the A34 near Oxford last Thursday (Aug 25) after a three-year-old died.

Thames Valley Police (TVP) said the girl sustained serious injuries in the collision, on the northbound carriageway of the A34 at Hinksey Hill, Oxford which involved a heavy goods vehicle and seven cars.

She was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital but died on Saturday (26/8).

A 31-year-old woman was also taken to the hospital and remains there, where she is receiving treatment.

A 58-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He has been released on bail until October 2.

Safety on the A34 remains under the spotlight, following a string of fatal crashes in the last six months including the multi-vehicle crash on August 10 which claimed the lives of a mother and three children.

Just days after the horrific crash, an action group was set up to campaign for safety improvements on the road and held its first meeting in East Ilsley.

Investigating officer Sgt Beth Walton, of the Roads Policing Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said of the latest collision last Thursday:

"This was a very serious incident in which a young child has tragically died, and so we are continuing to appeal for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward and get in touch.
