Met Office storm weather warning for West Berkshire

The Met Office has issued a yellow thunderstorm warning for all of Berkshire to apply on Thursday between 10am and midnight.

The afternoon and early evening will “likely” see thunderstorms in some areas, as well as “gusty winds and hail”.

Where they do occur, a few places could see up to 40mm of rain in an hour and 40 to 60mm in two or three hours.

The service warned of a “small chance” of homes and businesses being flooded quickly and damage to some buildings from water, lightning, hail or strong winds.

There is a “small chance” of fast flowing or deep water “causing danger to life”.

Train and bus services may be delayed or cancelled where flooding or lightning occurs.

Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures, closing off communities.

There is a “slight chance” of power cuts and loss of other services to some homes.

As the exact locations of thunderstorms are difficult to pinpoint, the Met Office said that it would keep the warning area under review and update it if necessary.
