Tilehurst fire station flings open the doors today

Open day includes action packed realistic demonstrations

A HOT oil pan fire demonstration will be among several realistic live demonstrations at a Tilehurst fire station's open day today (Friday).

Dee Road Fire Station's open day has several realistic live demonstrations from fire crews scheduled, including a hot oil pan fire demonstration, to highlight the risk of a kitchen fire and what should be done in the event that a fire breaks out.

There will also be a road traffic collision simulation and it is hoped that the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service's (RBFRS) competition rescue team will be showcasing their skills.

The team were victorious in the World Rescue Challenge for three years in a row (2011, 2012 and 2013), competing against
other fire fighters around the world in a series of timed, simulated scenarios.

The interactive day will involve children and adults having a go at using firefighters’ hose reel in a session of target practice.

The RBFRS fire prevention team will bring interactive games and information on fire safety for children, with chance to see some of RBFRS’ vehicles, including the fire engine and the Service’s specialist Heavy Rescue Unit, complete with rear mounted crane.

The Water and Animal Rescue Unit from the nearby Caversham Road Fire Station will also be on show (subject to availability).
The Fire Alpha II Rescue Boat responds to emergencies on the River Thames.

The day will raise funds for The Fire Fighters Charity, with a selection of goods on sale, as well as donation buckets.
Refreshments and hot food available.

Parking spaces may be available on Spey Road and Dee Road, with no public parking allowed at the fire station.

The open day is between 10.30am and 3pm at Dee Road Fire Station.
