Time called on Donnington pub, The Castle
The Castle pub in Donnington appears to have closed.
After five years, the management of The Castle say they have departed the pub due to ongoing problems caused by the cost-of-living crisis.
The pub, located on Oxford Road, previously shut in 2017 along with another landmark pub, The Three Horseshoes.
The pub is a Stonegate (Enterprise Inns) tenancy and its sister pub is The Red House at Marsh Benham.
Pub management were approached by the Newbury Weekly News but have been unavailable for comment. But after consulting local residents, West Berkshire CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) and making repeated site visits, it would appear the pub has already closed.
One customer wrote on the pub's Facebook page: "Sorry to hear you are closing. We had many happy family meals with you over the past few years. Good luck for the future."
Another added: "Well done to Alex and Holly and the team for keeping the pub going in tough times. Many happy memories, particularly as we came out of the pandemic".
