Time Spanners bid farewell, Chapel Row fair, Strongman competiton and more today (Sat)
At 11am, Northbrook Street is hosting the international Strongman competition, with 10 teams of two competing for the winning title in a number of events including a tyre flip, power stairs and moving atlas stones.
Members of the public are invited to watch the competition, which is taking place close to Tesco Metro, for free from 11am till 4pm.
From 9am to 5pm, Hill Top birds of prey will be at Cobbs Farm in Hungerford.
Guests can learn about the birds of prey and see them close up for free.
Also from 11am, the annual Hungerford Real Ale Festival, which began yesterday, will continue, at which there will be up to 15 real ales available with free entry into the event.
A range of refreshments including filled rolls, hot pies, curries and barbecue food will be available and there will be live music in the evening.
Sheep racing, falconry displays and performances from the Thames Valley Police dog display team are on the agenda for this years’ Chapel Row fair.
The event, being held on the green opposite the Bladebone Inn, is free entry and any funds raised will be split between West Berkshire Mencap, Newbury Parkinson’s, Spring Charity and the West Berkshire Foodbank.
From 3pm, rock band Rock Face are performing at charity concert Rock at the Rectory to raise money for St Mary’s Shaw Cum Donnington church and its outreach work.
Tickets are available on the door for £10 to include a barbecue and drink, and families are also welcome to bring a picnic along.
It is being held at The Rectory, Well Meadow, however tickets are limited.
Parents can also attend a drop-in session at Newbury Retail Park for a free check of their child carseats and advice about new regulations, following the introduction of new i-Size child and infant car seats.
The session is running from 10am till 4pm.
The Mortimer West End and District annual show is kicking-off from 2.30pm, while the International Orchid Summer Fair, organised by the International Thames Valley Orchid Society, is being held, at Roots Garden Centre in Hermitage from 11am to 4pm.
There will be variety of orchids on show as well as demonstrations, expert advice and refreshments available.
A farewell event is being held for a locally-based music group for people with learning and physical disabilities from 7.30pm until 9.30pm in the Council Chamber, Town Hall, Market Place.
Entry is free and the event will be for anyone who has enjoyed watching Time Spanners perform over the last 12 years to meet up with the Time Spanner team, to say farewell and to celebrate Time Spanners’ achievements.
During the evening there will be a welcome from Mark T, certificates will be given out to members, there will be a chance to view the Time Spanner movie Ten Years of Time Spanning and a launch of a poetry book by Richard Westall.
