Tories name their men for town council by-election
Manufacturer Stuart Fairbrother (pictured bottom right, with Newbury MP Richard Benyon) and retired police officer Malcolm Bowler (pictured top right), both residents of Newbury, were this week confirmed as the Conservative Party candidates for the Victoria Ward.
Mr Fairbrother, a father of two, said he would use his position on the council, if elected, to represent the local people of Newbury.
He said: “For too long the town council has been used by the Liberal Democrats as a political platform.
“Instead, I want it to serve the people of Newbury.”
Mr Bowler added: “Conservatives have pushed Newbury Town Council to develop amenities like Victoria Park and I want to see more of this kind of action.”
The Conservatives currently have the majority on the council, after former Victoria Ward Liberal Democrat councillors Liz Salter and Mukesh Bansal resigned last month.
