Tories rebrand in Newbury to avoid boundary confusion

At its annual general meeting on Monday evening this week the West Berkshire Conservative Association rebranded itself Newbury Conservative Association.

It is to reflect boundary changes creating the new constituency of Reading West and Mid Berkshire, confusion over West Berkshire Council and “most importantly the fact that Newbury is the official name of the constituency”.

Howard Woollaston (Con, Lambourn), the previous acting chairman of the association, was confirmed as chairman at the same meeting.

“It is an honour to be confirmed as chairman in a contested election,” he said.

“Clearly this is a difficult time for my party being in the middle of the Lib Dems and Reform but we have a whole new team in place, we are developing a strategy to get out and talk to members of the public on the doorsteps to get our message across and we feel confident of the future.”
