Tot has 'flaming' good time at Newbury Fire Station
Jessica Thomas posed a dilemma for her mother, Kate Thomas, of Sunderland Gardens, when she accidentally recently jammed a keyring onto one of her fingers.
“I phoned my dad in a bit of a panic and he told me to phone the fire brigade. Afraid of wasting their time I said: “Don't be ridiculous I can't do that!' . So I took Jessica to the West Berkshire Community Hospital (Thatcham) - and they called the fire brigade out instead!” said Mrs Thomas.
Firefighters from the Red Watch crew at the station, managed by Mike Wilson, succeeded in cutting the keyring off Jessica’s finger and afterwards, as a treat, promised her a visit to Newbury Fire Station, in Hawthorn Road.
The visit then took place on the morning of Sunday July 15 - together with her younger brother, Alex, aged two, accompanied by their mother.
The family outing had proved, Mrs Thomas said: “Fantastic,”:
“ I can't believe that we got to do and see pretty much everything including; rescuing someone from the dark room, sitting behind the wheel of a fire engine and using the hose! A huge thanks to Mr Wilson and his colleagues for taking the time and effort to show us round. We felt like VIPs!” said Mrs Thomas, adding:
“You've treated Jessica with such kindness and care, thank you. She has told everyone about her experience and I'm sure that they will now hear all about the brilliant visit to the fire station. I'm really grateful to you all.”
