Town council objects to plans for distribution warehouse in Thatcham

An application for the construction of a distribution warehouse in Thatcham has been submitted.

The building is hoped to replace an office building on Colthrop Way’s business village.

The existing building is a Flexspace Business Centre site.

The application includes access, a car park and landscaping.

The proposed two-storey building, Unit 100, is around 12.5m tall and the car park holds 24 vehicle spaces, six EV charging points and 18 cycling spaces.

Thatcham Town Council objected for three main reasons.

It said the development will increase lorry movements in an area that already has poor air quality.

It also raised concern with the absence of a traffic movement study and said the scale of the development for the site is over dominating for the area.

However, Justin Pemberton (Lib Dem, Thames West) said: I think the difficulty we are always going to have is it is an established industrial estate, lorries move in and out of it already.

“Yes this will add to it but in the grand scheme of things how many extra lorries does it add?”

The determination deadline for this application, which is yet to go to a West Berkshire Council planning committee, is September 1.
