Town set to enjoy second major al fresco event tonight (Fri)

Once more the Corn Exchange will host the show, which this time is being put on by world-renowned company, Periplum.
As the sun sets this evening, Newbury Market Place will come alive with the sound of live music, lit by pyrotechnics as the company who brought Arquiem to Newbury in 2010, unveil a much larger, more extravagant production, which promises to be a 360-degree sensory extravaganza.
Beginning amidst a battlefield, with an angel calling a war-ravaged clan to defend itself one last time, an international cast of fire-wielding soldiers, stilt-walking wraiths and huge mobile structures will weave through the audience as battle commences.
Exploring themes of war and peace in a spectacle of fire, light and humanity re-born, The Bell will take its audience through a host of emotions, before climaxing with an uplifting finale.
Having premiered at the National Theatre of England, The Bell has been performed across the world and takes its inspiration from the imagery of films by Akira Kurosawa and Andrei Tarkovsky.
The Bell represents the latest in a programme of large-scale outdoor events managed by the Corn Exchange and funded by Greenham Common Trust and Arts Council England.
The show is free and will take place in the Market Place from 9.15pm.
