Join the celebration of flavour and fermentation at Newbury's first ever PickleFest
Residents are invited to join Newbury’s first ever PickleFest this weekend.
Visitors can tantalise their taste buds at the inaugural event being hosted this Saturday (July 12) at the Delphic Brewing Company tap room on Mayors Lane.
The event – a collaboration between Green Shed Cider, Delphic Brewing Co, Fermented Reality and Blind Maggot – promises to entice pickle enthusiasts and curious foodies alike with tastings and live music by Harvey Kent, Nicole Allan and Toby Taylor throughout the afternoon.
Visitors will be able to sample and vote on a variety of homemade pickles, hot sauces, low and no alcohol drinks, ferments (including krauts and kimchi), jams and honey.
They can also enter their own creations, which will be judged by the crowd and a special celebrity chef from The Goat on the Roof restaurant on Bridge Street.
Tom Broadbank, founder of Delphic Brewing Co, said: “Last year, we started brewing in the heart of Newbury, and for one day only, we will want the centre of Newbury to be pickled.”
Dave Bailey, owner of Green Shed Cider and a member of the Newbury Farmers Market, also shared his vision: “PickleFest is a celebration of the incredible talents of the people of Newbury, showcasing the variety of produce created by individuals and small producers in our area and beyond.”
George Turner, founder of Fermented Reality, added: “Fermentation is reclaiming its throne in our guts, where it once ruled as the guardian of our health.
“It's wonderful to see more restaurants and caterers embracing wholesome food and drink, but the true power lies in our own hands, making these nourishing foods ourselves.”
The event will run from 2pm to 6pm. Entrants must pay a £5 fee in advance to participate in the competition.
