UPDATED: Traffic alert for the A34
UPDATE, 10.45am: The A34 has now reopened after an earlier closure for barrier repairs.
All lanes have now reopened on the M4 too, after an earlier crash. Traffic is still slow in the area but returning to normal.
National Highways has issued a travel alert for the A34 this morning, Tuesday.
It warns the A34 is closed southbound between the A339 (Donnington) and the A4 (Newbury) for emergency barrier repairs.
Thames Valley Police are attending the scene.
The alert states: “If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time.
“Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey.”
A diversion route suggestion states:
Follow the route marked with the solid triangle symbol on local road signs:
From the A34 southbound, leave at the A339 Donnington Link interchange.
Continue on the A339 for approximately two miles into Newbury.
Continue through Newbury on the A339 to the B4640 roundabout.
Use the second exit and join the B4640.
Follow for approximately two miles, to the A34 Tot Hill.
