Traffic madness in Newbury today (Fri)

Newburytoday.co.uk received reports from frustrated road users, including one who had spent 90 minutes travelling from Woolton Hill to Thatcham.
A statement released by Birse Civils, which is conducting the roadworks at Hambridge Road, said resurfacing works were taking place to Hambridge Lane on Thursday and Friday, which already sees road users delayed by three-way traffic lights at this junction.
Roadworks at Headley are also thought to be worsening the heavy traffic in the run-up to Christmas, with the latter scheduled for further works on Monday.
However a spokesman for West Berkshire Council, Keith Ulyatt said this was not confirmed.
He said: “We are aware that traffic is heavy, we don’t know why. Our traffic engineers are out and about trying to see if there’s any underlying cause.”
Road users travelling east on Hambridge Road heading to Hambridge Lane will encounter a new string of diversions which will direct them onto London Road, round the roundabout and back to Hambridge Road before being able to access Hambridge Lane.
