Traffic mayhem in Newbury today (Thursday)

Last night, the A339 was almost at a standstill after Hambridge Road had to be closed off from about 2.30pm because of a burst a water main, causing water to flood the B3421.
And this morning, as Thames Water was still trying to rectify the problem, the closure of that road as well as an overturned vehicle on the Andover Road added to traffic woes.
The A343 (Andover Road) in Newbury has been partially blocked because of the overturned vehicle and traffic has been slow in both directions between the A34 junction and the Wash Water junction from around 8am.
Also, an ambulance is currently (9.15am) attending an incident on London Road, eastbound just past Faraday Road.
Some drivers are currently experiencing long delays, reporting that it has taken nearly one hour to travel between Thatcham and Newbury.
Thames Water spokeswoman Natalie Slater said yesterday evening that some properties in Hambridge Road were without water or are suffering from low water pressure.
“We are confident that water will be restored to homes and businesses this evening,” she added.
This morning, she said: “We have been out there (Hambridge Road) all night . There were two bursts on a nine inch pipe. The pipe repairs are done. We are now doing the road repairs.”
Followers of the Newburytoday Twitter account @newburytoday reported water being restored to properties in London Road and Hambridge Road at around 6am this morning, however drivers have taken to the social network sites to express their anger at the traffic problems affecting the town.
