Change of land use plans submitted by traveller family

A traveller family has submitted a planning application to allow them to stay on land near Enborne.

Charlie Doherty wants to be able to live in a caravan and a mobile home and to create a day room at the site.

In order to do so, he must have planning permission to change the use of the land from equestrian to mixed use and equestrian.

He faced criticism from some residents for pitching up without the correct permission.

The application seeks to provide homes for two households, while retaining part of the plot, which is owned by Mr Doherty, for his ponies.

Mr Doherty says he wants his children to go to school and not live life on the road as he had.

They have been accepted into local schools.

The application makes reference to the council's policy for traveller sites which says there is a need for 13 more traveller pitches in West Berkshire to cope with the need.
