Travellers leave Dunstan Green
The travelelrs had arrived in the area for a funeral on Saturday and police issued a notice for them to leave by 10am on Tuesday.
Bags of rubbish and litter were strewn across the site following the travellers departure but town council officers were on site straight away to clean up the park.
Residents also reported seeing the travellers dumping their waste into the stream; and the Newbury Weekly News found human excrement at the bottom of the slide when it turned up to photograph the scene.
Speaking after their departure, one resident said: “If they didn’t make a mess and terrorise the local kids it wouldn’t be so bad. This lot have parked up and terrorised the local kids. One child was injured because of them. We’re not impressed. I can’t understand why it took the police so long to move them on.”
Thatcham Town Council will be considering ways to improve security on Dunstan Green at a meeting on Monday, July 14.
Leader of the Town Council, Bob Morgan, said: “My thanks to the Police for their action and for working with the Town Council and also to the contractors for swiftly cleaning up following the departure of the travellers”.
