Travellers served notice to leave Newbury site

West Berkshire Council has served notice for the travellers to leave a green near the Racecourse by Friday (9)

TRAVELLERS who have set up camp on a Newbury green are expected to leave by Friday (9).

Six mobile homes arrived this morning at Stroud Green at the junction of Racecourse Road and New Road.

West Berkshire Council owns the land and so it is the district council's responsibility to evict them.

District council spokesman, Phil Spray, said: “A group of travellers arrived on council owned land near the Racecourse this morning.

“We have already served a notice to quit and they now have until Friday lunchtime to do so.”
