Travellers set up camp on Hungerford Rugby Football Club pitch

RESIDENTS and members have been warned to avoid Hungerford Rugby Football Club after travellers set up camp on the pitch.

Around 14 caravans plus assorted other vehicles arrived this week.

Around 10am on Tuesday, August 2, the club posted the following on its social media site: "URGENT – unfortunately we have travellers up at the club.

"The police are involved.

"Please do not go up to the club until they have moved on.

"Please pass on [this] message to anyone who may plan on being up at the club in the next 48 hours."

A man who answered the club's telephone number yesterday (Wednesday) confirmed that people were being asked to stay away while police deal with the situation.

Thames Valley Police did not immediately respond to a request for information.
