West Berkshire Council issues tree preservation order in Thatcham car park

West Berkshire Council (WBC) has issued a Tree Preservation Order (TPO) at the Kingsland Centre car park.

The order came about on request from Thatcham Town Council (TTC).

The town council was made aware of a potential risk of tree felling in the area from a resident.

TTC said trees were allegedly covered in tape and there were plans for them to be cut down.

In a town centre committee meeting, held in July, chairman Owen Jeffery said the appropriate tree officer was notified.

The matter was kept quiet as they did not want to publicise the concerns and risk the trees being cut down quicker.

The order is provisional at this stage and, as with all TPOs, would have to be confirmed within six months of its signing and sealing date in order to continue to be in effect after that period.

TPOs have a 28 day objection period but this has passed.
