Tributes paid to former Hungerford mayor, Anthony Buckwell
FORMER mayor of Hungerford, Anthony Buckwell, has died.
The news was announced by the Town and Manor of Hungerford who said: “Anthony Buckwell was a trustee of The Town and Manor for many a year.
“His family have passed on the very sad news that Anthony passed away on November 11, peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones.
“We will all miss seeing Anthony around Hungerford and would like to use this opportunity to send our condolences to his friends and family.”
Current town mayor Helen Simpson posted a tribute stating: “I’m so sad to hear the news of Anthony’s passing.
“He was the kindest, sweetest person who helped me enormously when I first became mayor.
“Rest easy my dear friend.
“Your guidance, love, and support will be greatly missed.”
Another long-serving former mayor, Martin Crane, said: “His quiet and patient manner was a true role model for all that followed him in office.”
Mr Buckwell was mayor of Hungerford from 2010 to 2011.
He also served as a town councillor from 2007 until 2011 and was a trustee and chairman of the Corn Exchange Trust in Newbury from 2001 to 2007.
