Tributes paid to Newbury A339 crash victim

Dad-of-two from Thatcham died at scene following single car collision on Saturday

TRIBUTES have been paid to a 29-year-old father-of-two from Thatcham who died in a car crash on the A339 on Saturday.

Wayne Angell died at the scene after his blue BMW, that he had bought just the day before, left the road between the Burger King roundabout and the Tesco roundabout at around 7.40am.

In a statement Mr Angell's family said: "Wayne Michael Angell was sadly taken from us on January 9.

"He was a well loved son, brother, uncle, father, grandson and partner to Amy.

"He will be deeply missed by all that knew him.

"Angels East, Angels West, watch over Wayne, while he rests."

Sharon Repton, the mother of Mr Angell's son, described him as a sociable, bubbly character who was an “amazing” dad to their two-year-old Logan, and his daughter Bayli from a previous relationship.

Miss Repton, 31, told the Newbury Weekly News: “He was really bubbly and just a lovely person.

“He was so laid back – he was loved by everyone and didn’t have a bad bone in his body.

“He was an amazing father to Logan and his daughter Bayli.

“I’ve told Logan his daddy’s in the sky now and he keeps kissing Wayne’s picture but I’m not sure how much he understands.

“He was my best friend. I just feel like I’ve lost the other half of me.”

Tributes and flowers have been left at the scene of the crash on the A339.

The accident came just a month before Mr Angell was due to celebrate his 30th birthday for which he planned to do a charity sky dive, something which Miss Repton now says she wants to do in his memory.

“He would have been 30 on Valentines Day and he really wanted to do a skydive.

“It’s something he’s always wanted to do and he’d said he was going to do it when he turned 30.

“So I’m going to do it instead.

“I have the forms but can’t do it until October but it’s definitely something I want to do now.”

Mr Angell was driving his new blue BMW north along the A339 to have it MOT’d when the vehicle left the road between the Tesco roundabout and the Burger King roundabout just before 8am.

There were no other cars involved in the incident and no-one else was injured.

Emergency services were called to the scene at around 7.40am following the incident with a South Central Ambulance spokesperson confirming that the car had left the road and rolled over.

Police closed the road for much of Saturday morning while an investigation took place and the debris was cleared.
