Tributes paid to "the kindest, gentlest, most loving man"
Fifty-six year-old Andrew Evans died at the Royal Berkshire Hospital after a crash between a refuse truck, a Subaru and a Ford Focus last Wednesday (September 11).
He had been travelling as a passenger in the Subaru on the A4074 in Woodcote when the accident occurred.
In a statement, his family said: “In his younger days he had great pleasure in winding up his sister.
“After his schooling years he went on to work with his dad in Trotmans Butchers to train to become a butcher. After a few years of being a butcher he moved on to be a milkman and then on to driving oil tankers for Flints.
“Andy decided to change direction 20 years ago and joined the Ambulance Service to help others. He grew to love this career. Andy was a very knowledgeable man but really enjoyed a hands-on approach whether that was by saving lives or bringing a new life into the world.
“He also enjoyed fixing and cleaning his (and anybody else’s) car and cooking (and eating) steak and chips.
“Andy also really enjoyed long walks with his dog “Mr Bills”, his collection of pond fish and loved his music of the sixties.
“He was the kindest, gentlest, most loving man you could ever meet. Andy would drop everything to help others and loved all his family very much. He was also a big practical joker and his day wouldn’t have been complete without winding someone up.
“Andy’s passing has left such a hole that will never be filled and he will be so sadly missed.”
