Kennet School GCSE students dance for hours to fund trip of lifetime

Three Year 10 students have danced the day away to fund their trip of a lifetime.

Kennet School GCSE dance students Emma Johnson, Ellen Trybulec and Cara Yeates – joined by Thatcham mayor Petra Pemberton – danced continuously for eight hours at Frank Hutchings Community Hall on Sunday (May 18).

The trio are fundraising for a four-week Camps International expedition to Cambodia next July, where they will be completing vital work to improve the education and living standards of local communities.

The cost of their trip is £4,980 each, including their vaccinations.

Emma’s mum Catherine Johnson told newburytoday: “The girls did amazing.

“They did all the choreography themselves, other than when the teachers came in.

“They danced continuously from 10 in the morning till six in the evening.

“They’re a bit achy this (yesterday) morning, to say the least.

“Thatcham Town Council were brilliant and let us have the hall.”

The trio also had lessons from visiting dance instructors including ballroom and Latin with Dance2Connect and an hour of zumba with Zen Fitness.

They also had classes in street dance and line dancing from Blazin' Soles.

Their fundraising is still active.
