Truancy at West Berkshire schools lower than the national average

This week the Department for Education released figures on school absenteeism between spring 2011 and spring 2012.
While overall primary absence across England and the south east region rose from 4.6 per cent to 4.7 per cent, West Berkshire schools remained at a constant low of only 4.2 per cent.
Meanwhile the national absence rates for secondary schools saw an improvement down from 6.3 per cent in 2010-11 to 6.0 last year, while West Berkshire outperformed these reductions by coming down from 5.7 per cent last year to 5.3 per cent in 2011-12.
West Berkshire Council’s executive member for education, Irene Neill (Con, Aldermaston) said: “I am delighted that West Berkshire schools and Education Welfare Service continue to work hard to make sure children are in school when they should be.”
