Trunks and goggles at the ready for a swimathon this weekend

Swimathon is now in its 25th year, with more than half a million swimmers taken part since its inception - swimming the equivalent of 25 times around the world and raising over £36 million for charity.
Swimmers taking part in this year’s Swimathon for Marie Curie Cancer Care were able to choose from the 5k, 2.5k or team 5k challenge.
Those opting to raise money for the ‘Big Splash Mile for Sport Relief’ could take part individually or as part of a team to complete a mile.
The event kicks off tonight (Friday) at Northcroft Leisure Centre, Newbury, at 7pm, with members of the public and staff from the leisure centre taking part.
More participants will be swimming their lengths at Northcroft on Sunday between 2pm and 4pm.
Hungerford Leisure Centre is also opening its pool for the swimathon between 3pm and 6pm on both Saturday and Sunday.
Registration to take part in this year’s swimathon has now closed, but members of the public are encouraged to visit both centres to cheer on the swimmers.
