Two accidents on major roads

The A339 in Newtown, Newbury, has been shut and two lanes on the M4 have also been closed

A lorry has hit power cables on the A339 Newtown Road causing the road to be closed.

The incident happened at about 10am this morning (Tuesday) and the road is expected to be closed until about 3pm.

Spokeswoman for Southern Electric Sam O'Conner said: "Engineers have had to isolate the cables and that's why the road has had to be closed.

"It is affecting about 50 homes at the moment and we apologise for the inconvenience.

"We are hoping the power will be back on by mid afternoon. About 2 or 3pm."

Two vehicles have also been in collision on the westbound carriageway of the M4 near Junction 14 for Hungerford.

Lanes one and two are currently closed on the motorway.

Traffic is moving but Highways Agency has estimated delays of 20 minutes.
