Two arrests made after CCTV cameras in the Nightingales, Greenham, damaged hours after becoming operational

Two people have been arrested after recently installed CCTV cameras in the Nightingales were damaged mere hours after becoming operational.

The cameras were damaged “under the cover of darkness” in the Greenham estate shortly after they were activated.

The two suspects are currently on bail until January of next year while police enquires continue.

The Building Communities Together partnership between West Berkshire Council and local emergency services installed and operated the cameras as part of an initiative to reduce serious violent crime in the Nightingales.

The partnership is currently reviewing its options with a view to getting the cameras re-installed at the earliest opportunity.

The cameras were financed as part of a £242,000 grant awarded from the Home Office’s safer streets fund last year.

The grant has also been used to fund outreach youth work, a school-based education programme and three clear-up days on the estate.
