Thames Valley Police charge two men in connection with Tilehurst murder
Two men have been charged in connection with the murder of a 22-year-old Tilehurst man, who was stabbed to death on Sunday.
The investigation, carried out by Thames Valley Police’s Major Crime Unit relates to an incident on Romany Lane, Tilehurst on October 31.
Hamzah Ahmed, 18, of Jubilee Road, Reading, has been charged with one count of murder.
Umer Arshad, 23, of Waterloo Road, Wokingham, has been charged with one count of perverting the course of justice.
They are due to appear at Reading Magistrates’ Court today (Friday).
Officers were called to reports of a stabbing in Romany Lane at around 10.40pm on Sunday.
Thames Valley police has confirmed the victim, who died at the scene, as 22-year-old Reece Heffernan from Tilehurst.
It said: “Our thoughts remain with his family at this difficult time and we continue to support them.”
A post-mortem concluded the cause of death to be a stab wound to his chest.
An additional three men, a 29-year-old man and two 19-year-old men, all from Reading, who were arrested on suspicion of murder have now been released under investigation.
