Two West Berkshire schools in mock trial regional final
Teams from Trinity School, Shaw, and St Bartholomew’s School, Newbury (pictured), will now go head-to-head against each other and teams from Reading Girls School, Langley Grammar School, Upton Court Grammar School, Slough and St Crispin's School, Wokingham, in the regional final on May 10 at Reading Crown Court.
Pupils at both schools are said to have been hard at work practising their mock trial cases for several weeks, with the competition requiring them to take on the roles of lawyers, witnesses, magistrates, court staff and defendant in specially-written scenarios.
Local magistrates have been helping them with their preparations.
They are competing to be one of two teams selected to represent the Thames Valley at the national finals, being held at Birmingham Magistrates Court on June 28.
The mock trial competition is now in its twentieth year, and aims to provide pupils with an insight into the criminal justice system and its relevance to them.
