Two-year-old girl falls down Compton manhole

Rescued from seven foot drain by her mother

A TWO-year-old girl accidentally fell down a Compton manhole cover this morning (Tues), before being rescued and taken to hospital.

One fire engine from Newbury Fire Station and another from Didcot were called at 10am, to Wilson Close, after the girl fell seven feet down the drain.

The girl was rescued by her mother before firefighters arrived at the scene and taken to hospital for further checks, after sustaining cuts and bruises.

Firefighters made the area safe before departing after 45 minutes and have issued a safety warning of the possible dangers of standing on manhole covers.
