Ugandan day held at Horris Hill School

Horris Hill supports St Ugandan Michael’s Primary School, after the school secretary, Fiona Beach-MacGeagh, set up a charity for it.
Ms Beach-MacGeagh said that pupils started their day of learning about Ugandan culture on Tuesday with a 30-minute walk, to replicate the time that most of the children do each day in Uganda, followed by porridge for breakfast.
Lessons were conducted without electricity and each boy carried a small chalk board.
They were taught some Lugandan, the local language spoken in Uganda, and how to wash their clothes by hand. They also made footballs out of recycled materials.
Headteacher Giles Tollit said: “It is wonderful how much our boys enjoy learning about other cultures, and having a day like this really brings it all to life.”
