Underground cable repairs near Newbury town centre

Pound Street works cut electricity supplies to nearby properties

PROPERTIES near Newbury town centre were without electricity last night, due to repair works.

According to Scottish and Southern Electricity, the company's engineers were working in Pound Street, off the corner of Barthlomew Street, at around 10pm, to repair a section of underground cable.

"In order to do this safely, we turned off the supply to 2 nearby properties," said an SSE spokesperson.

"We have now completed our repairs and will be reinstating the road surface tomorrow (Thursday)."
