Unemployment up in West Berkshire
The latest figures showed that the job centre queues in West Berkshire lengthened by 27 claimants in August to 1,724, following two months of falls.
The total number represents 1.7 per cent of the population of the district.
Female claimants accounted for 24 of the newly jobless total, according to the Office for National Statistics release.
Year-on-year the number has fallen however, with 114 fewer people signing on than this time last year.
A gloomy figure was painted across Berkshire as the number of people claiming benefit rose by 67 to 13,467.
West Berkshire’s neighbours South Oxfordshire and Reading both recorded a rise.
Nationally, unemployment fell 7,000 to 2.59million in the three months to July.
